Artist Statement

I paint the things that enchant me. My inspirations are fruit, flowers, bowls, glasses, tablecloths and occasionally, the big blue of my Santa Fe skies. I paint what I see in the hope that luscious objects to my eye will translate onto my canvas.

As a young child I took imaginary photographs by drawing what I saw onto tiny strips of paper that I cut and rolled into facsimiles of film – a process that seemed to charm my mother and encourage my creativity. Eventually I secured a BA in Fine Arts but the reality of making a living took me in a very different direction for a while.

When I finally noticed something was missing I returned to studying art. After securing a certificate in botanical art and launching a special exhibit on the Botanical Treasures of Lewis and Clark I reawakened to the joys of painting.

Today I am tucked away in my southwest studio immersed in my painting, and on a lucky day my joy is complete when someone decides that they must have one of my paintings to bring enchantment into their own lives.
